Afghanistan: A Journey of Discovery
Seizing a remarkable opportunity to travel with a female doctor and translator in the northern Takhar province of Afghanistan, filmmaker Cornelia Kiss set out in January 2002 to record the faces and heroism of people who have endured twenty years of violence in a place where enemies and allies can be indistinguishable.
In this film, viewers journey from a river crossing bordering Tajikistan to remote villages and refugee camps as Cornelia Kiss visits victims of land mines, a midwife class and a school where girls are being anxiously re-enrolled. Along the way, she engages in personal conversations with families in their homes, discussions on wide-ranging topics such as marriage and traditional veiling.
This film offers a unique and rare look at the day-to day-survival, resilience, pathos and humor of the Afghani people.
